xbox-one-free-play-day

by Jacob Siegal

Game demos had a minor resurgence during the last generation. A quick search on either the PlayStation Store or the Xbox Marketplace brings up hundreds of results for demos of PS3 and Xbox 360 games, but the same can’t be said for PS4 and Xbox One. We haven’t heard much from either console maker regarding the future of game demos, but one Reddit user might have uncovered Microsoft’s plans.

Based on the image above, it looks like Microsoft is planning to implement a program called “Free Play Day with Gold” at some point in the near future. The tag appears below Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, a game which just recently got the Games with Gold treatment on Xbox One. There are no further details on the initiative, but the implies that Xbox Live Gold members will be able to download select full games for 24-hour free trials before deciding whether or not to make the purchase.

When asked on Twitter if Free Play Day is “a new thing or not,” Xbox Support responded with the following:

CallmePrestoFriend
@XboxSupport “Not sure if “Free Play Day” is a new thing or not. Was just checking”

Xbox Support
@CallmePrestoFriend “Gotcha. Looks like it is actually. We’ll be in touch here shortly. 🙂 ^AD

6:20 PM – 20 Aug 2014

24-hour demos will likely be an addition to the recently enhanced Games with Gold program, which offers Gold members a selection of free games on Xbox 360 and Xbox One every month.

Wowhead.com, a World of Warcraft database site, found an NPC called “Robin ,” in the data for the upcoming WOW expansion Warlords of Draenor. The NPC is associated with a 3D model that looks an awful lot like “Genie,” the chatty genie that Williams voiced in Disney’s popular animated film, Aladdin. The model appears to be a djinn. There are two other Robin NPCs, also coming in with patch 6.01.

The character’s presence appears to confirm the story last week that the beloved actor (who died on Aug. 11) would be immortalized in the game. Genie is one of Williams’ most well-known performances, and Aladdin one of Disney’s highest grossing films of the 1990s.

WOW super fan Alix Hope — also known as The Sha of Happiness — found the model a fitting tribute to the actor and his love of games:

“The new @robinwilliams NPC for @Warcraft, from @wowhead. Fitting. In tears.”

the division

by Sehran Shaikh

Ubisoft showcased Tom Clancy’s The Division at GamesCom 2014 but not to the general public. It was a behind-closed doors demonstration on Xbox One. How exactly was the demo? We finally have an impression and it is coming from an insider source—Justin Robey, Senior Producer on Sunset Overdrive, Ryse: Son of Rome and Scalebound.

Justin Robey via Twitter stated:

“Saw The Division running on Xbox One. Jaw dropping gorgeous. Steam and environments were unreal. Gameplay also looked to be solid. Sold!”

He further clarified Tom Clancy’s: The Division demo was indeed running on Xbox One and it went from dashboard to in-game, and he is not circulating fake or made-up information:

“Not messing with you at all. It was running on Xbox One. It went from dash to in game.”

Also, an insider source from “misterxmedia” who goes by the handle “forza_maniac” stated that he had an exclusive talk with developers of Star Citizen, Far Cry 4 and Assassin Creed Unity.

According to Forza_maniac, Ubisoft confirmed to him that Tom Clancy’s The Division demo was running real time on Xbox One and it was “frickingly Jaw Dropping”.

Forza_maniac’s conversation with Star Citizen developer was on topic of DirectX 12. He asked them whether DX12 is going to be a big deal or it is some PR talk by Microsoft considering the fact that Xbox Division Boss Phil Spencer himself stated it is not going to be massive?

Surprisingly, Star Citizen developer replied that Direct X12 is going to be very Big Deal, especially on next-gen GPUs and CPUs and gave an example that it basically upgrading Old Slow Car with Fast Super Car.

“Believe us my friend IT IS A VERY BIG DEAL.ESPECIALLY ON NEXT GEN GPUs and CPUs.It is like upgrading your old slow car with the latest, fast super car.Yes IT IS A BIG DEAL.”

As a proof of his conversation with these developers, Forza_maniac shared the following images.

resident-evil-revelations-2

by ‘Brian’

Images discovered on the official Xbox website have revealed the existence of Resident Evil: Revelations 2.

First, the Xbox website hosts the Revelations 2 box art above. There’s also a single screenshot located on the same “download.xbox” domain.

The box art indicates that Resident Evil: Revelations 2 will be on the Xbox 360, but it’ll likely end up on the PlayStation 3 and PC as well. PS4 and Xbox One versions would not be at all surprising either.

uncharted-4

by Gaf Hussain

With each iteration of Uncharted, Nathan Drake appears to looks slightly different. He originally was compared with Nathan Fillion, leading to rumors (or more like hopes) that the Firefly actor would eventually play the treasure hunter and adventurer Nathan Drake in a movie. However, in Uncharted 4, Nathan Drake looks like a different person yet again, and he looks more like a famous Hollywood actor. Could Naughty Dog have done the same thing they did with The Last of Us and accidentally create a main character that looks like a real life actor? Or are they doing this intentionally so when a film is announced, they already have an actor who slots right in?

We couldn’t help but think that Nathan Drake from the PS4 version of the Uncharted series has a striking resemblance to an actor, and the feeling stuck with us over the past few weeks until it dawned on us. Doesn’t Nathan Drake now look a lot like actor Jeremy Renner? What do you think?

There still is no release date for Uncharted 4 and we eagerly await an announced by Sony, but it looks like holiday 2015 will be likely.

Witcher_3_Wild_Hunt_e3_2014-272-750x400

by Nick Calandra

CD Projekt RED has issued a statement following the less then desirable reaction to the Xbox One version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt obtaining some exclusive items in its version of the collectors edition. Nevermind the fact that Microsoft has heavily promoted The Witcher 3 at every event, including E3 and Gamescom.

“Looking at the heated comments, I believe that our announcement of the physical addition of two decks of Gwent cards and a cloth map, requires a further word from us.”

“Here at CD Projekt Red, we always put gamers first. Our PC versions are released DRM-free, we bend over backwards to give you the most beefed up editions of our games (be it standard or Collector’s), and we deliver the same game, regardless of platform or version you buy. Moreover, we promised not have any exclusive DLCs, neither per platform nor per retailer, and we do stand by our promise–nothing has changed, nor will change in this regard.”

“Don’t get me wrong, I do understand that these extra items might be desirable for Witcher fans playing the game on other platforms. However, as we are not offering any platform or retail exclusive DLCs or any other form of gameplay differentiation, we do have to find other ways to support our partners. We are also providing special pre-order items for certain retailers around the world, including Witcher comic books, posters, steel books or medallions. Funnily enough, we did not notice any heated comments on the pre-order specials.”

“What is the reason? Why are we doing this? We need the support of partners to make our game visible worldwide. This should hopefully translate to better sales, which will in consequence allow us to do what we have been doing for the last 10 years, i.e. reinvest this money to make more great RPGs, while still sticking to our values.”

“If you still consider that adding two decks of Gwent cards and a map of the in-game world to the Xbox One CE equals us betraying our values and not fulfilling our promises, well, it does make us sad, but the final call is always yours to make.”

“Still, I do hope that what we offer is unique and we can ask you to give us the benefit of the doubt. We have more great things to announce for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the coming months and I promise you won’t be disappointed (yes, yes, there are no more exclusives coming).”

“I have nothing to say on this subject at this time so I’ll just leave you with CD Projekt RED’s statement and get back to you another time when I feel like discussing how annoying situations like this are becoming with the gaming community. As with the Tomb Raider blog post announcing the exclusivity of the game for Xbox One, I’d avoid the comments on The Witcher 3 Facebook page at this point in time to save yourself from endlessly shaking your head.”

We’ll be sure to continue covering all the latest on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt so be sure to follow us on Facebook to stay up to date.

Yosuke Hayashi, game director of Team Ninja, recently revealed that they are working on a new game for Sony’s PlayStation 4. Per him, the team is “developing a PS4 game internally”,and that we should “look forward to new information in the future.”

Now as you might already be aware, Team Ninja is the studio behind the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive series. And it was only two months ago that Hayashi-san said that the studio was already “thinking” about the next Ninja Gaiden. However, this new game could be something else entirely. We’ll just have to wait for an official announcement from Team Ninja to get our answer.

The Order: 1886 is turning out to be quite a game. Today, Sony’s Product Manager of PlayStation Spain, known only by his twitter name ‘Angel’, tweeted some interesting comments.

Per him, “The game looks so good that it resembles a movie. The graphics look incredible. I prefer it over Infamous: Second Son, even though they are both different games. However, for us, 1886 is a GOTY candidate.”

These are indeed powerful words and yet another example of Ready At Dawn putting its programming heart, soul and muscle into ensuring that ‘The Order: 1886’ turns out to be a triple A blockbuster.

The PS4 version of ‘Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’ has received a 2.3GB patch that addressed many bugs and issues found in the game’s single-player campaign.

This patch fixes a known bug where if a player had over 100 friends on their Friends List, the game would fail to connect to  Ubisoft’s servers. In addition, the patch also corrects numurous instances of crashing and freezes, while also tweaking in-game combat balance and in-game rewards that previously would not appear.

It should also be noted that this single player patch arrives arrives before the greatly anticipated Title Update 4 multiplayer patch which is scheduled for February 11, 2014.
