Destiny has been a big success so far, at least when it comes to overall sales, but that doesn’t mean Bungie is happy with the number of copies it has sold to date. The company is now letting curious players who aren’t sure whether they should spend $60 on Destiny try the game free of charge. Even more interesting, the free trial includes the option for gamers to save their progress and continue the game from where they left off as soon as they purchase the full game.

“Beginning November 18th, 2014, players will be able to try Destiny for free via Trial or Demo. Both experiences offer a sampling of character creation and progression, story mission content, along with cooperative and social activities,” Bungie wrote on its help website.

The Destiny Trial is available either on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, while the Destiny Demo is available on PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. The Trial version requires 20GB of disk space on either console, while the Demo version needs only 6GB of disk space on either the PS3 or Xbox 360. Both the Trial and the Demo versions of Destiny are available as digital downloads from either the Xbox Store or the PlayStation Store.

However, users should know that in order to transfer their progress, they have to purchase the game on the same console where they played either the Trial or the Demo versions.

What looks like the first images of Telltale Games’ take on Game of Thrones have leaked out, showing many of the series’ familiar faces even if this game will concern the story of a new character from a minor house.

The provenance of the images is not confirmed; this PlayStation 4 website from France posted them earlier today. Kotaku cites this Twitter account as the original source.

It’s possible these images are fake. It’d take a lot of effort to come up with them, though which look like a reasonable approximation of Telltale’s art style.

Telltale’s Game of Thrones adaptation will be six episodes long and will take place during the events of the third through fifth seasons of the HBO series. The fifth season is expected to premiere in 2015.

Late last month, a Telltale representative said their game would launch by the end of this year on iOS, Mac, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. That leaves about six weeks.

Blizzard confirms World of Warcraft‘s North American servers are experiencing a DDOS attack in the wake of the release of the latest expansion to the game, Warlords of Draenor.

The attack facing servers was significant enough for the company to formally acknowledge it on the official World of Warcraft forums, with community manager Bashiok writing: “We ran into a few other issues [in NA] including a distributed denial of service attack, that resulted in increased latency.”

Server maintenance on all North American realms is expected to take place from 5am PST, and will last roughly four hours.

The attack is believed to have originated in China, according to WoW Insider, while European servers are also experiencing latency issues that have resulted in long queues to enter the game.

The PlayStation Network will undergo routine maintenance on Monday, November 17 for a period of around six hours. The maintenance will take place from 10 AM to 4 PM Pacific that day. During the period, Sony will “deploy a series of back-end improvements to the network,” the company said in a post to its website.

The network servicing comes on the eve of a huge day for new releases. November 18 will see the release of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of Grand Theft Auto V and WWE 2K15, as well as Dragon Age: Inquisition, Far Cry 4, Little Big Planet 3, and the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.

If you’ve signed into PSN any time since November 13, you’ll be able to play games online and use apps like Netflix during the maintenance period. However, the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, and Account Management will all be unavailable during the six-hour period.

“We thank you for your patience and support and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” Sony said.

Call-of-Duty-Zombie-Trailer-Leak-48-1280x720

News broke yesterday that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare would in fact have a Zombies mode. That mode, according to the GameStop release, would be available to folks who purchased the $49.99 Season Pass.

However, GameStop’s wording didn’t really clarify whether or not folks would have to buy the Season Pass in order to get the Zombies mode. It implied as much with its verbiage, but it didn’t confirm it.

“This just in, Zombies are back as part of the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare season pass! Stop by any GameStop to pick up one of the most anticipated games to launch this year, along with 4-multiplayer map packs, Atlas Gorge, and yes – ZOMBIES. All this is available for purchase today at GameStop as part of the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare season pass for only $49.99.”

We stated that “we’re not sure about whether or not you’ll be able to get the Zombies mode through any means other than by buying the $49.99 season pass” in the story. Now, we have clarification.

We have received word directly from Activision representative Kyle Walker regarding the nature of Zombies mode. It will in fact be DLC, but you won’t need a Season Pass to access it.

“The Season Pass is just another offer to get all DLC at a discounted rate. Season Pass is not the only way to get Zombies…

…Zombies in AW is an Easter Egg for the fan…It was just a fun surprise the Sledgehammer team created for fans once they wrapped the main game. It’s their own new take and new style on Zombies.”

Well, an Easter Egg isn’t normally hidden behind a DLC price tag, but we get your point Mr. Walker.

Put away the pitchforks, you’ll be able to buy Zombies mode when it releases without buying the 50 smacker Season Pass. The release date and the price have not been revealed.

Respawn Entertainment has announced that Titanfall’s third DLC expansion, IMC Rising, will launch for Xbox 360 on October 21. The DLC was released for Xbox One and PC in September.

IMC Rising, which was announced at Gamescom in August, features three maps–Backwater, Zone 18, and Sandtrap. It follows previously released expansions Frontier’s Edge and Expedition. IMC Rising is the third expansion included with the $25 Titanfall DLC pass.

Gamers who don’t own the pass can buy IMC Rising (or the other two expansions) for $10 each. However, if you know for sure you want all three, the season pass will save you $5.

In addition to paid expansions, Respawn continues to support Titanfall with free stability/general improvement updates, while all non-map updates are also free.

Now that all scheduled Titanfall DLC has been released, the studio is likely moving its resources onto other projects, such as Titanfall 2, which was greenlit back in March, according to our sources. The game has not been officially announced, though publisher Electronic Arts confirmed in May that Respawn is indeed working on more “Titanfall experiences.”

Xbox 360 gamers without an Xbox Live Gold subscription will be able to make use of the service for free this weekend, Microsoft announced today.

As it has in the past, Microsoft is making Gold free for everyone with an Xbox 360. A Gold subscription offers more perks on Xbox One than it does on Xbox 360, but at the very least, this means you’ll be able to play Destiny, NBA 2K15, or any other 360 game online for free for the next few days.

Unfortunately, the weekend promotion won’t allow you access to Deals With Gold or Games With Gold benefits; you’ll need to actually pay for a subscription in order to get yourself some cheap or free games.

The free weekend has already begun, and runs from today through October 12.

Chuck everything in

In addition to wiping the floor with Microsoft’s abhorrent used games policies, Sony’s strategy for the latest generation seems to have centred on one very simple tactic: bundle everything. The platform holder has announced a dizzying number of hardware packages over the past 12 months, and this set available in Germany is the biggest daddy of them all.

Available for a very reasonable €499.99 (£392), the uber-bundle includes exclusives Killzone: Shadow Fall, Knack, and inFAMOUS: Second Son. It’s a good starter set, for sure – but we can’t help but chuckle at the colossal box. What else do you reckon that the company will squeeze into this set over the coming years?
